2002 Paramedic of the Year
The Paramedic
of the Year award is for outstanding Advanced Life Support care provided by
a paramedic in Skagit County. This year's winner is Tim Boyd, whose years
of service and dedication to his profession have not gone unnoticed and
through whom many patients have benefited by his compassionate and expert
care.

2002 B.L.S. Provider
The B.L.S.
(Basic Life Support) Provider award is for outstanding care provided by an
Emergency Medical Technician or First Responder in Skagit County. Terry
Bowen is this year's recipient for rendering aid to an unconscious woman
he found while driving in Mt. Erie Fire District. Terry was simply
performing routine maintenance on Fire Hydrants in his Fire District, but
due to his constant vigilance he noticed the unconscious woman laying near
her front door. The woman probably would have gone unnoticed for quite
some time. Terry Bowen is a volunteer for Fire District # 11, Mt. Erie.

2002 E.M.S. Educator
The E.M.S.
(Emergency Medical Services) Educator award is for outstanding and
dedicated service as an E.M.S. educator. Jerry Hannawalt is this year's
winner for his selfless devotion to quality education and his commitment
to his students.

2002 Council Service Award
The Council
Service award is for the exemplary service of a volunteer on the EMS
Council. Matthew Halliday is this year's winner for his tireless efforts
in assisting the EMS Council and the citizens of Skagit County in having a
state of the art EMS system. Matthew has volunteered his human resources
and legal expertise for uncountable hours, free of charge.

2002 Lifesaving Award
The
Lifesaving Award is for a rescue performed by a citizen of Skagit County
that resulted in the saving of a life. This year's winners are Shane
Simpson and Mike Belden from Anacortes. These two outstanding gentlemen
came to the aid of an elderly woman who had suffered a cardiac arrest. By
performing CPR they then "bought" the necessary time for the paramedics to
save her life.

2002 Baby Award
The Baby
Award is for delivering a baby while on duty in the field as a provider
in Skagit County. Dave Faddis was the proud recipient of this award.
After 27 years of devoted service to Emergency Medical Services, Dave
finally had the wonderful opportunity to deliver his first baby. This
exciting event occurred on August 11, 2002 at 9:35 am while on duty with
Aero-Skagit Emergency Services. The little baby girl was 6 lbs 5 oz and
healthy. Dave had been delaying retirement because he especially wanted
to deliver a baby, but had finally decided to not recertify after this
term.

2002 Arvid Gates Award
The Arvid
Gates award is for outstanding humor which all Emergency Medical Services
providers need lots of to continue on in their job. The winner of this
year's award is Glen Staheli who has taken care of patients that are still
laughing. This is the initial year for this award, as Glen's humor
through the years has initiated this award. Glen's alias is Arvid Gates
and he has written many humorous "anonymous" letters to his peers towards
their benefit.
