2006 Responder of the Year
On November 14, 2005, Asst. Chief Glen Staheli, Burlington Fire Department, was dispatched to a mobile home fire with a two year old child involved.  When Chief Staheli arrived to a well involved trailer fire, neighbors were carrying the unconscious two year old and attempting CPR.  Chief Staheli gave a quick update to incoming Burlington Fire units and immediately provided care for the critically injured child.  His expert care provided an airway and rescue breathing until an Paramedic unit arrived.  The child was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital and flown to Harborview Medical Center.  A child's life was saved through Chief Staheli's efforts.

2006 Good Samaritan Award

On November 9, 2005, Daryl Hawes and Deputy Steven Dills, through combined efforts, saved the life of Eron Roberts, who was trapped underwater in his submerged vehicle.  They had just freed him when the Paramedic ambulance arrived on scene.  Mr. Roberts, who had no pulse and was not breathing, arrived at Skagit Valley Hospital alive.  After being flown to Harborview, Mr. Roberts survived this incident.  If not for the extraordinary efforts of Daryl Hawes and Deputy Steven Dills, Mr. Roberts would not be alive today.

2006 Ellen Morgan CPR Award

The Ellen Morgan CPR Award is reserved for individuals who have actually saved a life using CPR skills. This award was established to honor Ellen Morgan, who was present at the ceremony, presented the awards and was instrumental in the initial establishing and development of Skagit County’s CPR program as a regional faculty member and an Instructor Trainer of the American Heart Association.

16 year old Liz Hart never thought she would use the life saving skills she was taught from Skagit County Medic One in her High School.  However, one week later her family was at a picnic when her father who had been complaining of chest pain suddenly collapsed.  He was not breathing and had no pulse.  With the help of her 15 year old brother, Kyle, they turned him over and Liz directed Kyle to do breathing, while she did chest compressions.  Their mother called 9-1-1 and within two minutes an Aid Car arrived and Mr. Hart survived.  Without the lifesaving help of his children, Mr. Hart would likely not be alive today.
