Not unlike other Emergency Medical Service agencies, up until 2002, data collection and report writing was an ongoing struggle with Skagit County Medic One.  However, on June 27, 2002 the Skagit EMS Council set a goal to develop a county-wide data collection system, so that the overall EMS system could be adjusted and improved by facts.

By January 1, 2003, Skagit County Medic One's I.D.E.A. had been formed.  I.D.E.A. stands for "Incident Data Entry Actuary".  An Actuary is something which computes statistics based on data to incite, move, impel and motivate.  I.D.E.A. has been created initially to collect Advanced Life Support call data and appears to have unlimited bounds.  So far, I.D.E.A. has fulfilled it's goal to collect uniform data into a flexible and functional format.

Statistics
Skagit County Medic One continually monitors and re-evaluates its response procedures to provide the highest level of care in the fastest time possible. We daily strive to exceed the accepted norms for our industry.

Skagit County Medic One's current standard for Advanced Life Support Ambulance Response Time is as such;  at the 90th percentile, time from the moment of dispatch until the provider’s ambulance comes to a complete stop at the scene should not exceed:
   - 8 minutes in urban areas and within the incorporated cities
   - 15 minutes in suburban areas
   - 30 minutes in rural areas
   - 90 minutes in wilderness areas.

The various population densities described in this Response Time standard are defined according to the Skagit County EMS Commission's Population Density Map, which interprets the most recently available census data according to Washington State regulation.

By responding to information provided by the ALS Agencies into I.D.E.A., Skagit County Medic One was able to drastically improve county-wide call volume statistics from July 2004 through June 2005:
   - Dispatch Time (Call Received to Call Dispatched) dropped 14 seconds to be 1 minute, 11 seconds at the 80th percentile;
   - Turnout Time (Call Dispatched to Enroute Time) dropped 40 seconds to be 2 minutes, 4 seconds at the 80th percentile;
   - Response Time (Call Dispatched to Arrival On Scene) to Urban Areas improved by ten percent, dropping two minutes to be exactly 8 minutes at the 90th percentile.
