This happened in Federal Way early this morning.
Click here: A baby was injured after the vehicle he was in was rear-ended by a drunk driver. How many time does this have to happen? The law is simple:
- Kids are to be in car seats until they are 4’9″
- Kids are not to be in front seat until they are 13 years old
- Parents or caregivers need to follow car seat manufacturer’s instructions
We don’t take two-month-old babies out to feed them while driving down the road. If they are hungry, pull over and feed them.
Simple physics keeps us from being able to hold on to a child when the vehicle comes to a sudden, screeching halt. At 30 miles an hour at a dead stop, a 10-pound baby becomes a 300-pound weight flying out of our arms and through the windshield. I don’t know how fast the vehicle was going when it was hit by the stupid drunk driver, but nevertheless, a baby is now in critical condition at Harborview with a skull fracture.
Had this child been in the back seat in a car seat, we wouldn’t be reading this news.
