The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has recommended that children stay rear-facing until 2 years old, changing its previous recommendations. “AAP News,” the official newsmagazine of the academy, states that research shows that toddlers are five-times safer rear-facing than forward facing. Previously, the AAP recommended that children stay rear-facing until 1 year old and 20 pounds.
