Skagit Healthy Aging Coalition

Mission Statement

Our goal is to keep seniors on their feet through proactive education and outreach.

About Us

The Skagit Healthy Aging Coalition is a partnership of community organizations whose
purpose is to raise awareness and promote behaviors that support healthy aging –
exercise, falls prevention, healthy eating, home safety and proper use of medications.

We offer presentations to senior centers, service clubs, community organizations
and others who are interested in learning more about healthy aging, with a particular
emphasis on falls prevention.  If you would like to schedule a presentation, please contact Alice Collingwood at (360) 770-3160 or alice.collingwood@companionsandcare.org.

We are active in community events where we can reach older adults, such as the annual
Skagit Senior Day in the Park and the Anacortes Senior Resources Fair.

Our organization supports the Healthy People 2020 (link) initiatives by helping to:

  • Improve the health, function and quality of life of older adults.
  • Increase the proportion of older adults with one or more chronic health conditions who report confidence in managing their conditions.
  • Reduce the proportion of older adults who have moderate to severe functional limitations.
  • Increase the proportion of older adults with reduced physical or cognitive function who engage in light, moderate or vigorous leisure-time physical activities.
  • Reduce the proportion of non-institutionalized older adults with disabilities who have an unmet need for long-term services and supports.
  • Reduce the rate of emergency department visits due to falls among older adults.
